Jim and his best buddies, Sean and Greg somehow discovered this radio show while in the fifth grade. I would hear them singing and laughing but never paid much attention until I tuned into the lyrics of one particular song: Dead Puppies. These were typical boys – they loved to jump bikes over anything, play Dungeons and Dragons for days, swim, fish and laugh. They loved their animals and often brought home wounded birds, crawdads, and all kinds of creepy crawly things. But singing these lyrics…loudly?

Dead puppies, dead puppies, dead puppies aren’t much fun.
They don’t come when you call;
They don’t chase squirrels at all.
Dead puppies aren’t much fun.

There is no accounting for taste of young boys. The echo of their laughter still makes me smile.
